Cape Town - The Ultimate Adventure Tourism Destination

Updated: Oct 19, 2023

Is Mountain Biking the Ultimate Adventure Tourism Activity in Cape Town?

For 7 straight years, the Mother City of Cape Town South Africa, has been voted the best tourist destination in the world. When you visit Cape Town, it's easy to understand why.

The magnificent Cape Peninsula, home to the spectacular Table Mountain, splits the Atlantic and Indian oceans. All around, skirting the boundary between mountain and sea are a whopping 72 beautiful and pristine beaches; 10 of which are international Blue Flag beaches.

The city itself is situated at the feet of the iconic Table Mountain, framed by Lions Head on the western side and Devils Peak on the eastern side. Yes, right on the cities doorstep is breathtaking wilderness and exhilarating adventure, making Cape Town the perfect destination for adventure tourism.

There is more to do in Cape Town than you could ever do on a single trip. Walk the colourful streets of Bo Kaap, swim with the Penguins at Boulders Beach, enjoy sensational dining at fine or traditional restaurants, scale mountains by foot or cable car, explore the exquisite wine country of Stellenbosch and even have a go at creating your own beat with traditional drumming lessons.

As for adventure, every list you come across of the recommended top 5 activities will differ from another; there is just too much to choose from. Land, sea or sky, Cape Town has an adventure just for you.

Although Cape Adventures aims to ultimately embrace all these activities and provide access to these services for our adventure seeking tourists, our greatest passion and focus is mountain biking.

Go Epic Mountain Biking in...

Cape Town

There are a number of world class MTB trails all across the fynbos covered slopes of the Table Mountain National Park. Our local favourite, and most popular of all, is Tokai Park. Around the Cape there are approximately a 100 trails, most of which are in excellent, well kept, condition.

Stellenbosch

Of course, MTB trails are scattered all across the Western Cape and there are many to choose from. On the other side of the Cape Flats, nestled in the heart of the Cape Winelands, is the mountain bikers' paradise town of Stellenbosch - one of the best mountain biking scenes in the world.

Before visiting the wine farms and enjoying the abundance of wine and food, why not first explore some of the world's best mountain biking trails Stellenbosch has to on offer.

Tygerberg

A little to the north of Cape Town, in the picturesque region of Durbanville Hills, we find the spectacular Tygerberg MTB trail network that stretches across 24 very beautiful farms. Many of these are wine farms too that you can explore and enjoy after your ride.

All The Bike And Gear You'll Need

To maximise the enjoyment of your adventure and give the best possible experience, we have invested in top quality full suspension mountain bikes - Trek Fuel EX, Trek Slash and Specialized Stumpjumper.

These bikes come equipped with dropper posts and flat pedals, so any sturdy activity shoe will do. We do provide SPD (clip-in) pedals if you prefer but you'll need to bring your own cleated shoes.

Helmets are, of course, provided as an essential item, as well as riding gloves and water bottles.
